About Webframe
Webframe was inspired by the observation that there are many
more organisations and individuals that would like to have their own presence
on the world wide web than actually succeed in achieving this ambition. There
are many reasons for this but high in the list are:
- The perceived and actual technical difficulty
- The time and cost of engaging specialised help
- The lack of immediacy in updating a site leading to fact
that there are so many “stagnant” sites on the net today.
One of the most admirable and successful approaches to
addressing this is the “Wiki” – Wikipedia being the most famous example.
However even this has not had a wide penetration amongst lay users – quite the
reverse, most wikis are the prerogative of a small community of technical
experts.
We, at webframe.co.uk, believe that this is because most
wikis limit the range of sites with inadequate navigation and styling options which
restricts the capability of a site thus tying the user to the particular look
and feel of the host wiki – something that may not suit your particular project
or business. Going beyond a wiki to create your own independent web site still
requires significant technical skills, at which point most individuals will
turn to a professional designer with all the disadvantages and costs that
entails.
With Webframe we can offer you your own web site, your own
url, and content creation using the familiar and powerful editing capabilities
of Microsoft Word – the world’s most popular word processing system, and more features,
such as site styling and membership, all using an approach that seriously
minimises the technical skills you need to learn.
Technology
The Webframe system consists of application software that is
built using the Microsoft .Net Framework – one of the most advanced
technologies available today.
There is server-side software (i.e. running on Webframes’s
computers), using Asp.Net and Sql Server Express, and a desktop application on
your own PC, using Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0. This communicates with your
web site in real time using web services. The fact that the desktop handles
much of the editing load (using Microsoft Word) means that we can offer much
richer editing tools than the exclusively server side applications used by
competing products such as wikis.
